Shriners Hospitals for Children Portland Grand Opening
Wednesday, May 19, 2010
The May 8th, 2010 event marked another exciting milestone in the 86-year
history of Shriners Hospitals for Children in Portland. There was an estimated
attendance of about 600 people, and it was open to the community, donors,
fraternal supporters, hospital staff, patients and others.
The
event started at 1:00 PM with greetings from Imperial Sirs Dale Stauss, John
Cinotto, Charles “Tad” Claypool and Raoul Frevel, along with IS Brandt Bede, MD.
The ceremony ended with Chairman of the Hospital Board of Trustees Imperial Sir
Doug Maxwell and Imperial Sir Jack Jones sharing their greetings and receiving a
ceremonial key to the new building from Andersen Construction CEO, David
Andersen. This group, along with Portland Hospital’s Chairman of the Board IS
Barry Bede, Administrator Rick Cagen and patient ambassadors concluded the
ceremony with an official ribbon cutting.
Tours of the newly completed addition, including access to the new Surgical
Services department, were hosted by Andersen Construction, Shriners Corporate
Director of Facilities Tom Ochab and hospital staff. Refreshments, a special
visit by the Amy Roloff Foundation members and sunny Pacific Northwest weather
put the finishing touch on a magical day for those in attendance.
